GOVAC 10 and GOVAC 11The Glen Oaks Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc. (GOVAC) was founded in 1973 by a group of 10 caring, community minded individuals, who wanted to assure that a local community based ambulance service would continue to be available to their neighbors. Glen Oaks VAC is a NYS Not-For-Profit corporation, providing community volunteer EMS/Ambulance Service. The corps services all or parts of the Northeast Queens Communities of Bellerose, Glen Oaks, Floral Park, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens, and North Shore Towers. Glen Oaks VAC maintains mutual aid agreements with surrounding community volunteer corps in the NYC area and is a participant in the Regional EMS Council of NYC – FDNY/EMS mutual aid plan.

Glen Oaks VAC is a certified basic life support ambulance service by the Bureau of EMS, NYS Department of Health. The corps provides Emergency Medical and Ambulance transport service to residents and visitors in its service communities, using its 3 modular ambulances. The corps also provides emergency medical//first aid stand-by service to major local events, including many of the larger events at the Queens County Farm Museum. Additionally the corps sponsors CPR and first aid classes open to local residents.

Today, Glen Oaks VAC consists of approximately 60 volunteers who serve as Emergency Medical Technicians, Emergency Vehicle Operators, Dispatchers, Explorers ( 14-18 yr. old Youth Squad Members), and administrative members. The corps is diverse with many members who work in the health care (EMT’s, Paramedics, and Nurses) and emergency service (firefighters, police officers) fields, as well as those with other full time professions (managers, teachers, engineers, skills trades’ people, etc). Volunteering with Glen Oaks has lead to careers in health care and emergency services for many of our members and former members. In either case it’s a rewarding and challenging experience for those who come part of the GOVAC team.

The Officers and Members of the Glen Oaks Volunteer Ambulance Corps wish to thank our community residents and businesses for their continued generous support. We also wish to encourage interested residents to join our team.
